Mediation Skills for Managers: "Hands On" Tools to Manage Staff Conflicts
Harry Webne-Behrman, Office of Talent Management, UW-Madison
Frequently, managers and supervisors are placed in positions where they are expected to resolve workplace disputes and have to "fly by the seat of their pants" in order to do so.
This workshop provides an overview of essential tools to those who seek to mediate workplace disputes effectively, as well as an opportunity to practice the mediation process in a classroom environment.
It is taught by Harry Webne-Behrman, a professional mediator specializing in workplace and organizational disputes.
This session offers a step-by-step process that helps internal mediators understand the conflict, identify core elements of mutually beneficial solutions, help disputing co-workers evaluate those solutions in order to meet their best interests, and help build effective agreements that are more likely to last into the future.
As well, the workshop will help participants evaluate when it is appropriate (or not) to mediate disputes in their roles, and offer alternative conflict management strategies that may be helpful to workplace situations.
Note: This is a two-day class. Please be prepared to attend both days.
