University Roundtable: What Makes Shakespeare’s First Folio So Special?  (back)

Description:
The 1623 “First Folio,” the first collected edition of Shakespeare’s plays, is one of the most famous books ever printed. But why? Assistant Professor of English Joshua Calhoun will explore the making and the marketing of Shakespeare’s legacy from 1616—the year he died—to 2016. The First Folio will be on display at the Chazen Art Museum from November 3 to December 11 for a once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity. This talk will give you an opportunity to think about viewing and questioning and understanding an object like Shakespeare’s First Folio.
