Fully Prepared to Engage
Public Participation and Engagement Professional Development

Program Overview
The goal of the Fully Prepared to Engage program is to facilitate and otherwise catalyze the creation of a broad and deep staff capacity to convene participatory engagement processes on campus and in the community, fostering a great sense of inclusivity and legitimate participation in meaningful issues facing our institution and the State of Wisconsin. This capacity would reside in individuals, groups, departments, etc. and be meshed with an infrastructure that facilitates leadership in identifying key issues, resources to respond to those issues, and channels for cost-effective solutions to be developed. It is intended to be an important professional development opportunity for a variety of campus constituencies: for managers, faculty, and leaders at all levels seeking to express facilitative leadership, seeking skills in engaging the full campus community.  Click here for a detailed overview

Program Audience
This program targets anyone seeking skills, strategies, and knowledge of ‘best practice’ models of participatory engagement in collaborative deliberation and decision-making processes. These include:

  • Program Directors, managers, etc. who want to engage staff, customers, and other stakeholders in ‘informed consent’ processes where the parameters are transparently understood (i.e., who has power and influence to decide and the limits/ opportunities of participation).
  • Advocates seeking to fully engage constituencies in formulation of clearly developed and articulated positions from which to enter either political or negotiated processes.
  • Facilitators seeking to bring together stakeholders to engage in collaborative, often consensual, processes on any number of UW issues, whether occurring within the University itself or in related projects in the community… from small-scale to very large scale in scope.
  • Faculty and others with a teaching and research interest in participatory processes can both serve as resources (instructors, advisors) to FP2E and as sources of student interns who may strengthen our capacity to develop and assess this project.
